Hope Pyx Global 2022 International Book Awards & Conference - Why Vote For Lisa Zarcone? I Will Tell You
Hello Everyone, My name is Lisa Zarcone. I am a survivor of child abuse. I have been abused mentally, emotionally, physically and sexually. My past was hideous, vile, scary and disturbing. I have worked very hard to make peace with it all, and overcome my trauma.
Now as an adult looking back, the hardest part for me to accept is that I fell through the cracks. I was this young girl seeking help and showing all the signs, only to be ignored and overlooked.
I can describe it best by saying, “I felt like garbage on the bottom of someone’s shoe being dragged around”.
That is a very sad statement to read out loud, and this is exactly how I felt about myself as a young girl. I did not think I was worth anything, and on some levels I felt maybe that I deserved all of the abuse because nobody seemed to care. (The thoughts of a 12 year old girl, who has already been through years of abuse.)
As an adult I can see how, “the signs of the times”, played a big factored into my experiences. Their were people in my life trying to throw a few life lines here and there whenever they could, but at the end of the day, I had to travel this treacherous road alone battling more than one abuser along the way.
At one point, I wanted to end my life at the tender age of 13; because I couldn’t handle the abuse any more.
In spite of it, I survived it, and I am now thriving in life. I am a wife of 35 years (happily married), a mother of 3, and a grandmother of 4. My husband and I are raising 2 of our grandchildren, and I am so proud to say that we have fully come together for our family unit. We are instilling great morals and values along the way. Our family is truly blessed.
On a professional note, I am now an accomplished Author, Public Speaker, Child & Mental Health Advocate, Blogger, Social Media Influencer & Radio Personality. As the Massachusetts National Ambassador for Naasca (National Association of Adult Survivors of Child Abuse) I use my title and personal story as a platform to speak about child abuse and mental health. In 2021, I had the honor of receiving the 2021 Heroine Award for MA Commission on the status of Women (WCSW). This award was given to me for all the work I am doing out in the community.
I am sharing all of this with you, not to boast but to encourage others to pursue their hopes and dreams no matter what! It can be done, and Abuse Survivors can succeed in life. I am living proof of that.
My mission has always been to inspire and help others. As I move forward I always ask for people to walk with me, because we are stronger when we walk together. I am humble and honest at all costs, but I remain authentic in all that I do.
I am humbly asking people, that if they believe in what I do, please take a moment and VOTE for me. I am not looking for fame or popularity, what I am looking for is to broaden my platform for the sole purpose of helping others. I want to help people gain a voice, stand tall and start their personal healing journey. I want people to feel what I feel, which is peace inside my soul.
I know now that my past was not my fault, and that by facing it, I have finally been able to move forward in a positive way in my life. Every single day I think about how I can inspire someone and help them push on even when life seems so heavy and dark. I want be that light.
Entering this contest has shown me that what I have inspired to do is working. If you read the comments that have been left for me, its beyond humbling. I am always blown away by the kind words of others. They bring tears of joy to my eyes, and fuels me to continue on this important journey.
Raising Awareness for Child Safety/Abuse and Mental Health Illness/Stigmas will always be at the top of my “To Do” list.
I want to say thank you to everyone who believes in me, and I hope to touch many more lives along the way.
